The Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (RMIPPPP) was launched in response to the 2 000 MW Ministerial Determination gazetted on 7 July 2020.
The defining and innovative technical feature of the RMIPPPP is that multiple generation facilities located at different geographical locations could be bid as a single dispatchable Project, without being prescriptive on the types of technologies. As all projects are to be dispatchable, the System Operator has the choice of dispatching each project on the basis of an economic merit order, which will ultimately benefit the South African consumer.
